Entelechy, “the realization of potential,” points to the endless possibilities available to us when the whole of something is valued as more than the sum of its parts. When the process of a craft is what makes it complete. It is a story of human value, individual aspiration, group inspiration, community, and co-creation.

entelechy brings together Friends Life Community artists (our Friends) with intellectual and developmental disabilities, the process art approach and facilitation of Friends Life Community Program Specialist for The Arts, Sarah Blosser, and the story-based design process of Nashville area jewelry designer, Tony Perrin of Lock and Key. The exhibition depicts the true power of community and what we can accomplish when we merge our strengths, talents, and vision.

Each art class session at Friends Life Community allows our Friends to interact with and explore art mediums and art making in ways that help them to discover personal aesthetic, medium, and approach preferences. Teaching artist facilitators can then help individuals further explore and hone their skills and approaches.

The artwork of our Friends is an exploration of their creative expression as well as the value of process over product. It gives a deeper look into their individual hopes, dreams, and desires, and serves as an embodiment of what it means to have a place where our Friends can belong and realize their own potential while learning how to navigate their world.

Viewed both as individual works and as a collection that inspired Tony Perrin’s jewelry designs, entelechy explores what it means to have potential realized.
